Blank Park Zoo President/CEO Anne Shimerdla and her team have committed to a Behind the Scenes Tour for DMAM Members on June 17 at 4:00 p.m. followed immediately by VIP early entrance to Zoo Brew at 5:30 p.m.
Tour participants are expected to attend Zoo Brew.
Behind the Scenes Tour
- Arrival: Discovery Center no later than 3:50 p.m.
- Time: 4:00 p.m. sharp.
- Adults only.
- Closed-toe shoes required.
- Weather: Tour may be rescheduled for severe weather.
- RSVP deadline: Tuesday, June 9, by noon to [email protected].
Tour highlights include the Eastern black rhino barn, giraffe barn at feeding time, coral conservation, and Blanding’s turtle conservation.
The Zoo has generously waived the regular $150 per person tour fee. Appreciation donations may be made directly to Blank Park Zoo: general (Donation — Blank Park Zoo) or animal specific (Animal Wish List).
Zoo Brew
- Time: VIP early entrance at 5:30 and ending at 9:30 p.m.
- Photo ID required.
- Adults only.
- Drinks available for purchase.
- DMAM members’ Admission paid by Social Committee yearend funds.

Location: Blank Park Zoo, 7401 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. Parking is clearly marked.
