The Magic of Dreams

Eleanor L. Akahloun, born in 1943, was raised in a small Cape Verdean community in Onset, Massachusetts. She is a retired diplomat with the U.S. State Department, where she served forty-three years initially as a Foreign Service secretary and ultimately as a human resources officer. She is a graduate of Chamberlayne Junior College and attended evening classes at Boston University. She has traveled to over fifty countries and held assignments in the Philippines, Morocco, Kenya, Tunisia, Canada, Uruguay, China, Venezuela, and Washington, D.C. She has two children and currently resides outside of Washington, D.C., where she enjoys writing, painting, traveling, practicing yoga, and engaging in volunteer work.
"The Magic of Dreams” conveys the story of a Cape Verdean- American whose heritage and family enabled her to leave her small hometown and pursue her life's passions. These are memoirs of a retired American diplomat who served in the U.S. Foreign Service for more than 40 years. Along the way, there were colorful adventures and valuable lessons learned as a result of living overseas and visiting the world's seven continents.

DMAM Roasts Outgoing President Yencer

In DMAM tradition, our outgoing president will be roasted by members of the Club as our Rotary year ends! This is a light-hearted way of saying thanks and showing our "affection" to Kyle Yencer for his dedication to our Rotary Club. Though this is a fun, humorous, meeting, it is not intended for young children.
